Way back in the late 1940's, 50's, & 60's, Verlin Marquardt returned from serving in the Army for WWII and began creating custom wood products in Baraboo, WI under the name Marquardt's Woodworking. (1954 advertisement) with the motto "Cooperation Builds Anything"

In 1969, Verlin and Alice Marquardt were married and bought a piece of property in Rio previously owned by Alice's Grandparents (last name "Sanden"). Because this property was mostly forest and used to supply heating wood to the farm, it was known as "Sanden's woods". The first workshop was built (1200 sq-ft currently our office area) and the company Sandenwood Products was formed. A common phase heard around the shop was "Anything's possible".

As the years went by the family grew along with the business. Verlin and Alice had 4 children (Shane, Kim, Scott, & Kyle) who learned the value of hard work and craftsmanship growing up in a family business environment. The family can be seen here in a 1985 family picture as we produced thousands of display cabinets for AT&T.

1986 brought a challenge when an exceptionally harsh snow fall caused the roof of the main shop to collapse. With the shop destroyed and all the tools badly damaged, the decision to rebuild was made with a lot of emotion and drive to make it better than it ever was.

In 1995 Verlin retired and the oldest son Shane took over with Alice to run the family business now Sandenwood Inc. Our 18,000+ sq-ft shop now utilizes some of the latest equipment and techniques including computerized drawing and drafting, CNC automated parts cutting/drilling equipment, and an automatic edge bander; however, we still hold on to the beliefs of hard work, customer satisfaction and quality products.

Quick Biography's

Verlin Marquardt - Co-Founder. 1919-2004. Verlin is missed very much but his talents, ethics, and values live on through his children. Several recent customers stated that Verlin & Alice built and installed their kitchen 30+ years ago and they liked it so much that now they want Sandenwood to update it.

Alice Marquardt - Co-Founder-Co-owner. Alice has a BS in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and a life of experience in the custom cabinetry business. She currently also holds the office of President of the local Rio School Board.

Shane Marquardt - Co-owner. Shane has a wood techniques education from Fox Valley Technical College and years of experience in the cabinet shop. You will find him involved in every aspect from the customer consultation and design to installation of our products.

Kyle Marquardt - Kyle has a BS Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He is raising his 3 children with wife Samantha on the family homestead and hoping they soak up some of the talent and great work ethic, Kyle assists in machine maintenance and technology support.
